On behalf of IMG, I’d like to welcome you to the Sheshan International Golf Club for the 14th edition of the HSBC Champions and our tenth staging as a World Golf Championship.

 

We are immensely proud of the WGC-HSBC Champions and our close relationship with our partner HSBC. The tournament has grown in stature year after year and plays a very significant role in developing the game of golf in Asia and beyond. HSBC is one of the most significant supporters of golf globally, and we thank them for their commitment to the game.

 

We are delighted to be back in Shanghai to, once again, enjoy the fabulous facilities and hospitality of our host, the Sheshan International Golf Club. We are delighted to welcome such a strong field including our reigning Champion Justin Rose, World No 1 and two-time Major winner this year, Brooks Koepka, World No.2 Dustin Johnson, World No.5 Rory McIlroy and the 2018 Open Champion, Francesco Molinari.

 

Every player in the field arrives in strong form for what is widely regarded as ‘Asia’s Major’ to compete for an increased prize fund of $10 million and a three-year exemption on the PGA TOUR.

 

The quality of the field participating this week certainly reflects the event’s status and is a testament to the standing of the tournament internationally. So many of the world’s best players are here, as they look to win the illustrious WGC-HSBC Champions title against the strongest field gathered in Asia this year.

 

Thank you to all the sanctioning Tours, and particularly the China Golf Association for their unwavering support of this tournament and the development of golf in the country, and to Sheshan International Golf Club who have worked hard to ensure another successful edition of  WGC-HSBC Champions.

 

Have an enjoyable week on the course. Whatever the outcome, and whoever claims the Old Tom Morris Cup on Sunday, we are assured of a fantastic week of world-class golf.
