I extend you all a very warm welcome to the WGC-HSBC Champions 2018 in this magnificent venue in Shanghai, where we opened for business in 1865.

 

The HSBC Champions in Asia is our flagship golf event, and it began here 14 years ago, in 2005. For most of that time, it has been the the catalyst for promoting golf in China and the rest of Asia, contributing to the sport’s development on the global stage.

 

We are delighted to bring this leading international tournament to Sheshan International Golf Club once gain.

 

This year, we once again have top golfers from around the world attending. And it is a great pleasure to see so many coming back to join us again for round 14, creating the strongest playing field in Asia.

 

We are thrilled to see how many young Asian players have picked up the game and now compete confidently against the best in the world. This is a promising trend.

 

We have sponsored golf for many years. We believe golf and HSBC have a mututally beneficial partnership. Or, as  the brand promise we launched this year puts it: ‘Together we thrive’.

 

Once again, I wish all the players every success and  hope all spectators will enjoy watching  top-class play at the WGC-HSBC Champions.
