Thomas had a celebrated amateur college career in the United States, where he overcame Major Champion Jordan Spieth and former World Amateur Number One Patrick Cantlay to win the NCAA Division I Golf Championship in his sophomore year at the University of Illinois. He progressed through all three stages of the 2013 Qualifying School to earn is European Tour Card. Pieters impressed in his debut season, winning twice in consecutive appearances in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands before adding a third title at the 2016 Made in Denmark. Thomas finished fourth at the Rio Olympics and as one of Darren Clarke’s wildcard picks became the first European Ryder Cup rookie to win four points at Hazeltine, where he played every match. Thomas has played three WGC-HSBC Champions events, his best finish was a T-14 in 2016.
